I’ve just watched Vikramaditya Motwani’s directorial debut and Anurag Kashyap’s production Udaan. I’m blown away. This movie is meant to be felt. It depicts a father-son relationship and its frustrations with great sensibility. After seeing this one, you understand why Udaan was presented at the Cannes film festival. (Indian films hadn’t been in the official selection for years.) It’s got the right pace and never fails to send chills down your spine.

As for the music, Amit Trivedi yet again proves that he’s establishing himself as a prominent music director in Bollywood. Indeed, for me, the most memorable tunes this year have come from Vishal-Shekhar and Amit Trivedi.

I give you the main theme from the movie. It’s been used at various cues in the story, mainly to sum up the actor’s hardships, sometimes in a loud steel factory, sometimes while he’s alone glancing at his poetry.
