As mithai tonight, I’ve made what I’ll call ‘Panditaji ki Laddoo.’  These ain’t your regular laddoos. There’s a story behind them.

Some 7-8 years ago, there used to be regular havans at my place. One of our family priests is a lady we affectionately call Panditaji. One day before the havan, she came in the kitchen and offered her help. That’s when she made these laddoos that I’ve tried to re-assemble today out of memory. It’s made out of semolina, ghee, sugar, coconut, almonds, sesame seeds, cardamom and some milk. Don’t ask me about the proportions but in the end, I’m pretty satisfied with the taste and texture.

There, Mom. I actually did do something for Divali. I wish I were in Mauritius today where we’d have made 8 more mithais till late in the night.

Anyway, Happy Divali to you all. We celebrate today the victory of light over darkness, but above all, the victory of knowledge over ignorance.
