Monthly Top 5 (+2) Albums - June 2010
June edition is yet again dedicated to my exams. Before my hols finally hit on Friday, here we go with the best music I’ve heard lately.
Revisions mean going back to my favorite intrumentals. I’ve picked 3 albums for this month.
Balmorhea - All is Wild, All is Silent Remixes (2009)
Mukta - Live! (2009)
In the mind of Nitin Sawhney (2007)
As for music discovery, mostly happening during the morning walk to work, I’ve been particularly drawn to:
Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History (2010)
This band is a good continuity to indie-rock band Phoenix, with that same desire to move. Trust me when I say that I wana move!
Tunng - …And Then We Saw Land (2010)
Just a happy album to start the week with. Tunng is what i call music for any Grey’s Anatomy episode.
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker (2010)
My pick of the month! This Aussie band announced itself with the provocative video Solitude is bliss. The rest of the debut album drove me insane, taking me back to the psychedelic folk days of the ’70s. Highly recommended.
Dhafer Youssef - Abu Nawas Rhapsody (2009)
I discovered the Tunisian oud player as live guest on France Inter’s Musique Plus. After Anouar Brahem, I’m yet again drawn to this instrument. However, what surprised me was the peculiar way of singing of Dhafer Youssef. It took me a while to adapt to his high pitch!
