that’s it. i’m about to leave home in a few hours, flying back to reality. these few weeks in homeland Mauritius with family and friends have been exquisite.

this collage is an overview of my best holiday moments. i’ll publish more hopefully.

i did my qawwali debut last night with John of Zighur Hat and his family of musicians. i might have started a tad too high on the pitch but settled pretty well in the end.

that was a great first experience singing urdu songs in front of complete strangers…and a reminder to start the riyaaz (daily practice) again; those alaaps need much polishing.

in any case, there is space for sufi music here in bordeaux!

that’s right. this is my 1000th post on this site, a story that started way back in November 2007. that’s pretty decent for someone to tries to share something everyday, even if i’m just reblogging some stuff.

so what is adarsh.me ? initially, it was meant as a window into my little bloated mind, a way for me to keep thinking, to keep writing, something that i had stopped doing 6 years ago at the end of high school. as I got into med life, the situation only got worse. enrolling in a French university didn’t help either.

however, with time i realized that i cannot fully open up to the rest of the world. i find it hard to share my views, my feelings, my emotions. and this is because i’ve displayed my true identity on the web. despite adhering to the concept that the web is just an extension of your true self into the virtual world, i cannot entirely be that same person. else, you’d have found me ranting a lot about my studies (i’m bitching a lot about hematology these days). in any case, i’m never going to be that anonymous figure on the social web begging for sympathy from the rest of you. i have a face and a name, and i intend to use them properly.

i also got a voice… but that’s another story ^^

in these 3+ years, i’ve also found out that i couldn’t mix health news and music on the same website. however hard i’ve tried, it just gets creepier. this is why i opened adarsh.me/health, which, i must admit, i now find hard to maintain.

so what is adarsh.me ? it’s basically a place for you to figure out my current musical taste and by extension, my current mood. music is my escape from everyday hardships and i respect those people who’ve dedicated their lives to this art.

with such an installation in place, I wonder if my future professional life would find a place here… time will tell.

Back in Mauritius!

Les Gens De Lafontaine - Nantes (Beirut Cover)

Beirut’s Nantes covered by Les Gens de Lafontaine

Here’s a glimpse of what you could hear at my place last Saturday. For a year now, we’ve been meeting once a week (almost) in my living room to play just for fun, discovering each other’s musical backgrounds. We’ve just been doing covers so far. Let’s hope we get to create our own stuff next year.

By ‘we’ I mean Les Gens de Lafontaine, which comprises

Gaëtan (Guitar)
Fadil (Guitar)
Me, Adarsh (Vocals)
Vincent (Drums)
Akshaye (Vocals, Piano, Melodica)

So before we all set sail for summer holidays, we decided to do our first ever live show. It’s been full of glitches here and there, but on the whole, we had a positive reaction from our friends. You have here our rendition of Beirut’s Nantes taken from The Flying Club Cup (2007).

That’s me 2 years ago having my dholl-puri bite as I landed in Mauritius. I hope to re-enact that pose soon. Holidays, we’re almost there!
